We want to help schools choose the FIRST program that fits their students, find mentors, and plan for equipment and expenses. Connecting new teams with local supporters gives them a stronger start.

As teams grow, we want to help them develop the funding and volunteer support they need to become self-sufficient.

What students learn on a robotics team can open doors long after high school. We want to connect them with colleges, technical training, and local employers so they can explore careers in engineering, technology, manufacturing, and skilled trades.

Our goal is to build relationships with local businesses and mentors that help students take that next step, while strengthening the skilled workforce and STEM community here in Volusia County.

Our mission is to help more students take part in robotics and STEM: science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Through funding, mentorship, and support from local schools and businesses, we help students gain practical experience, work as a team, and develop skills they can use in school and future careers.

DRA helps provide the funding, equipment, materials, and support that keep Team 2152 moving. Students gain practical experience in engineering, programming, problem-solving, and leadership.

Each supported team will have a profile with its school or community, robotics program, and the support DRA provides.

Kindergarten through high school

Grades K–8

FIRST® LEGO® League

Elementary & middle school

Build curiosity through hands-on challenges with LEGO® bricks, coding, and teamwork.

What students build & learnShow less

Students begin with LEGO® models and age-appropriate engineering challenges. As they progress, they use motors, sensors, and code to make their creations move and respond.

Younger teams explore ideas and share what they build. In Challenge, teams program a robot to complete missions on a tabletop field and research a real-world problem. Across the program, students practice testing ideas, working together, and explaining their solutions.

Grades 7–12

FIRST® Tech Challenge

Middle & high school · Ages 12–18

Design, build, and program a robot while learning to solve problems as a team.

What students build & learnShow less

Teams build compact robots using structural parts, motors, sensors, and mechanisms they design for the season’s game. Students program autonomous actions and drive their robots in matches alongside an alliance partner.

With guidance from mentors, they test designs, troubleshoot code, and improve their robot throughout the season. Students also document their engineering decisions, raise funds, and share their work with the community.

Grades 9–12

FIRST® Robotics Competition

High school · Ages 14–18

Build a competition robot and develop engineering, leadership, and teamwork skills.

What students build & learnShow less

High school teams build industrial-sized robots for a new game each year. Students work with mentors on mechanical design, fabrication, electrical systems, programming, and game strategy.

Teams compete in three-team alliances, combining their robots’ strengths on the field. Off the field, students help run the team through fundraising, outreach, communications, and leadership.

Team 2152 SMASH participates in this program.

Grade ranges overlap. Students do not need to complete one program before joining another. About FIRST

The new FIRST® Tech Challenge game is BIOBUZZ™ presented by RTX. The official game animation introduces the challenge, and the season page includes a field walkthrough and team resources.

Aug 27, 2026K–8Changes ahead for K–8 programsNew programs are planned for 2027–2028, after the final FLL season.

FIRST has announced new K–8 programs for 2027–2028. The 2026–2027 season is the final FIRST LEGO League season, with names and further details for the next programs to follow. Continued compatibility with SPIKE Prime and Essential sets is planned through 2028–2029.

Aug 4, 2026FLLExplore the BIOGLOW™ seasonThe 2026–2027 challenge is released, with videos and materials for each edition.

BIOGLOW™ explores ecosystems through Founders Edition and Future Edition activities. The official season page includes videos for Explore, Challenge, and Future Edition.

Future Edition materials for grades K–2 are due in October 2026.

Dec 8, 2025FTC / FRCWhen does the new controller arrive?FTC: 2027–2028. FRC: the 2027 competition season.

FTC teams begin using the new Systemcore control system in 2027–2028, not the current 2026–2027 season. The announced transition allows legacy and hybrid FTC systems through at least 2030–2031.

FRC begins its rollout for the 2027 competition season. The transition rules differ by program, so check the current rules before purchasing equipment.
